Diane Tompkins Burtch

Diane Tompkins Burtch, 83, of Grayling, gained her wings on August 6, 2021 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Clintonville, WI on January 28, 1938 to Ralph and Irmagard Mauel. Diane graduated from Wisconsin State College with a degree in home economics. She was a successful business woman and a true entrepreneur. She was a real estate agent in Lansing, MI and the previous owner of Shel-Haven Canoe Livery, Diane's Car Wash, Diane's Cherries, and Diane's Fireworks. Diane was a long time member of the Grayling Rotary. She was a member of Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also known for her beautiful flower display on the corner of M-72 and I-75 Business Loop near the car wash. Diane has been an asset to our community with her genuine interest and presence for many years by volunteering and serving on boards and also as a member of the Grayling Chamber of Commerce.

Survived by her children: Greg (Michelle) Tompkins of Texas; Natalie Novak of Texas; and Todd (Jodie) Tompkins of Frederic, MI. Step children: Susan (Bob) Geisler of Grand Blanc, MI and Linda (Roger) Sherman of Colorado. Also survived by 14 Grandchildren and ​23 great grandchildren Brothers: Roger and Tom Mauel. Sisters: Sue (Sherm) Mossbarger and Lavonne (Bob) McClone and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Tompkins and second husband, Jim Burtch.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Celebration of Diane's Life at 11:00 a.m. at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church and a luncheon following at Shel-Haven Canoe Livery.
