Detmar Heinrich Finke

December 28, 1937 — May 17, 2020

Detmar Heinrich Finke, of Lovells Township, died May 17, 2020.  He was predeceased by his mother, Helen Ward, and step-father, David Ward, both of Saginaw, his sister Anne B. Finke and brother-in-law, Jerry Mitchell, also of Saginaw, as well as his father, Lt. Col. John Georg Wilhelm Finke of Fort Belvoir, VA.  He is survived by his wife, Carol Godfrey Finke of Lovells, his daughter Anneliese Blythe Finke of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, sister Sally Yurchuck of Ohio and brother Fred Ward of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Detmar grew up in Saginaw until he left to attend his final years of high school at the Putney School in Putney, Vermont. He earned his BA at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and did his graduate study in English, specializing in American literature, at the University of Washington.  He taught at the University of Washington in Seattle, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Western Wyoming College in Rock Springs and Kirtland Community College.  In his spare time, he read mysteries and poetry, listened to music (especially jazz and early country), worked with electronics and devoted countless hours to not improving his golf game.

The family plans a private memorial service later in the summer.

Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
