Bernard "BERNIE" James Lasich,78, of Grayling, passed away on Wednesday October 31, 2012. Bernie was born in Marquette, Michigan on January 10, 1934 to the late Laurence and Lucille (Lupton) Lasich. He graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1951. He then joined the Army and went on to serve in the National Guard. He served a total of 41 years before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer Four in 1994. He served active duty during Dessert Storm at the Pentagon and National Guard Bureau. Bernie was a generous supporter of many Camp Grayling projects. He married the former Janet Johnson in 1955. Bernie and Janet had three children. They were married for 29 years before she preceded him in death in 1984. Bernie began working at Dow Chemical in 1968 and retired in 1989 after 21 years of employment. While living in Midland he enjoyed curling and was a member of the Midland Curling Club. He moved to Grayling in 1989 and met Linda Munsey. Linda has been his faithful companion for 23 years. Bernie enjoyed spending time in the UP at his house in Onota Township of Alger County. Bernie was a licensed builder and enjoyed many outdoor projects. He was busier in retirement than in his working years. He attended annual Lasich family reunions in Mio, Michigan, every summer, and his Bishop Baraga High School reunions right up until his class's 60th reunion in 2011. Survived by his companion Linda Munsey of 23 years. Children: Steven Lasich of Marquette Polly Lasich of Battle Creek Thomas (Doris) Lasich of Midland Grandchildren: Caitlin and Christopher Aunt: Betty Wellman of Marquette Special cousins: Guy Lasich and Ed Lasich Many nieces and nephews and cousins. Also survived by Linda's family: Arthur Munsey of Grayling Lorie Munsey of Houghton Lake Diann (Brian) Davis of Grayling Debra (Jeff) Poloski of Cadillac 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren Preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, brothers Laurence & William George, sisters Geraldine and Mary Caroline Visitation will be held on Sunday November 4, 2012 between 12 noon-5 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Private family burial will occur at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
