Allyn “Kelly” Schwarzkopf, 73, of East Lansing, passed away peacefully on January 8th. Allyn was born on May 19, 1951, a birthday she would later share with her son, to Guy and Doris “Susie” Kellogg in Saginaw, MI. After Allyn graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek in 1969, She went on to study Education at Western Michigan University.
Allyn “Kelly” had many jobs from teacher to social worker. After the birth of her daughter, she stepped into the work of caring for children as a licensed day care provider for over 20 years molding and shaping many young lives and developing many more friendships. In 2019, she decided to go back to school and pursue her master’s degree in professional counseling at Spring Arbor University and has spent the following years proudly practicing as licensed professional counselor.
Allyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Eric, a loving and devoted husband for 45 years. Her children, Zachary (Veronica) Schwarzkopf of Grand Rapids and Emily (Joshua) Skrzypczak of East Lansing. Her grandchildren, her pride and joy - Gabriella, Wilfred, and Audrey. Her sister Cheryl (Frank) Dadam of Green Bay, WI, nephew Scott (Lora) Dadam of Sturgeon Bay, WI, sister-in-law Lisa (Douglas) Loew of Chicago, IL and numerous dear friends who were more like family.
Our mom’s life was always in service to others whether it be as a teacher, crisis counselor, day care provider, or licensed counselor. She did many things and was so many things to so many people, but the job she loved most was that of Mom and Grandma. She was so proud of the lives we each built and the partners and little ones who joined our family. We will carry her wisdom, humor, and love with us every day.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Sorenson-Lockwood funeral home in Grayling at 1PM on April 26th with burial at Lovells Cemetery immediately following. Family and friends are welcome to join for a luncheon at the Old Kellogg House, one of our moms favorite places following burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Listening Ear theear.org, an organization our mom gave her time and energy to and believed in.
Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
